General Board Meeting Minutes: May 2, 2014
- Car Hop: Friday, May 9th beginning at 5 PM at the Panther Mt. Inn. This month’s trophies were donated by The Crossroads. Vintage Car owners and spectators are all welcome to attend – no entry fees!
- ATV Ride to Benefit The Helpers Fund: Saturday May 10th. $20 entry fee includes barbeque at The Tin TeePee afterward. Last ride had 60 – 70 participants and more are expected this year! 11 AM start with registration beginning at 10 AM at the Tin TeePee.
- Carol Theatre: Committee has been formed and events are being scheduled for this summer. The group is the Adirondack Performing Arts Council (APAC) so check out their webpage at http://adkpac.webs.com or find them on Face Book https://www.facebook.com/pages/Adirondack-Performing-Arts-Council/779926848693531?ref=hl and make sure to “Like” and “Share”! There will be an Open House Fund Raiser on May 9th to correspond with the Car Hop so stop in and check it out! Funds are needed for this project for advertising & theatre electric costs and committee will be sending a letter out to local businesses and individuals for donations to get them started. Performers will be paid by a portion of ticket sales. The Carol Theatre building is also officially for sale, and anyone interested in more information should contact Cindy Mead at Gallo Realty.
- Craft BrewFest: Fund raiser on Saturday, May 31st, 5 PM to 8 PM at the Panther Mt. Inn. Come and enjoy a night of Beer tasting with numerous brewers on hand for brief presentations on the history of beer! Appetizers and raffles! Entrance fee is $25.00 and all moneys will go to the Tri-Lakes Business Alliance. Committee members: Don Butler, John MacMillan, Dave Herrington, Randy Berg.
- Digital Sign for Town Events: A committee was formed (Barb Thomas, Craig Leggett, Brandon Himoff, Don Butler, Fred Holman and Penni Cargiloi) and in conjunction with the NW Chamber of Commerce, they will start the process of getting a digital sign to be installed in front of the Chamber building to advertise all town events.
- NW Scholarship: Applications for the $500 award to a graduating Senior have been delivered to the Guidance Counselor and should be returned by May 15th when the committee will review the essays.
- Music on Main Street: Scheduled for July 10th and 24th, August 7th and 21st on the front lawn of the Chester Town Hall. Monies are needed for these events and committee will be asking the Town of Chester to allocate funding for these free to the community concerts.
- Don Butler met with attorney Rob Simon about revising our by-laws and changing our incorporation status and although Rob will, pro-bono, edit our original by-laws, he suggested we contact an attorney who specializes in non-profit groups to change our legal entity. Anyone with knowledge of someone who could do this for us, please let us know!
- Rum Runners Weekend: Scheduled for September 12th – 14th. Committee will meet toward the end of June. Cindy was given permission to start buying fedoras, beads, headbands, etc. for the TLBA to sell over that weekend, as prices are less now than they will be toward the fall.
- The Cross Roads has opened their Ice Cream Store! Summer is here!
- Toga Party: Panther Mt. Inn, Saturday May 10th, 8 PM, free admission, music by Flip Side, prizes for the best togas!
- Creating Healthy Places: Kathy Varney explained that Chestertown and North Warren School are participating in a Healthy Community Mapping project. This project is offered by Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work and Play, a New York State Dept of Health Grant out of Glens Falls Hospital. The project will highlight opportunities within the community to improve free places to be active and streets that are safe for pedestrians and bicyclist. $25,000 will be available to make those improvements.
- Drew Cappabianca will be opening The Hub at the old town hall (27 Market St.) in Brant Lake around the end of May. The Hub serve as a bike shop for repairs, plus offer a social meeting place for bikers and residents alike. Bikers can park, meet, change and rest, plus they will be offering beer and wine and a light breakfast/lunch menu and assorted appetizers for afternoons and evenings. This upscale café will be open from 10 AM to 10 PM. They are also planning a mid-week triathlon training series to be held mid-week this summer, as the nearest similar venue is offered in Lake Placid. - Lazy Moose Garden Market, in Brant Lake (6499 State Route 8) will be opening on May 8th with deli, sandwiches, flowers, gifts, coffee & treats. The greenhouse is up & stocked so stop by often and support your local businesses!
- Care for Cameron: 21-month-old Cameron is still going through a tough time battling spinal meningitis. People are helping his parents with medical expenses but could use more help. Donations can be made through PayPal on Face Book (Care for Cameron) or checks can be made out to Gabrielle Kuba and mailed to The Phillips – 1425 Friends Lake Road – Chestertown, NY 12817.

- Golf Tournament Fund Raiser: The TLBA funds are running low and we will be having our annual Golf Tournament Fund Raiser at Green Mansions in June. Date to follow but please plan on joining us for this fun afternoon!
- Stone Bridge and Caves: Ice Cream parlor will be opening on May 10th with the Caves opening on May 17th. Free Admission for Locals Day will be the weekend of June 7th & 8th so if you’ve never checked out this natural treasure in our own backyard, plan on doing so! It’s a great way to spend a few hours outdoors with family and friends!
- Stratford on Hudson will be presenting “Art” a comedy directed by Alfred Hyslop and starring Alma Alvarez, Nancy Brooks, Wendy Joy-Hayes will be held at the Town Center Theatre on May 16th, 17th, 23rd, and 24th at 7 PM and Sunday May 25th at 2 PM. Tickets are $5.00 at the door!
- The North Warren Chamber of Commerce will be honoring Paul Matson of Garnet Signs and Fred Holman of The Art in Chestertown at their annual VIP dinner on Wednesday, May 7th, at Jimbo’s on the Point in Brant Lake. Dinner cost is $29 so call Jimbo’s at #494-4460 to make your reservation for this great celebration!
- Memorial Day Parade: Being held in Horicon this year, floats are needed!!!! Possibly enter a TLBA float with people dressed as our events? Farmers, Snowman, Flapper/Gangster, Leprechaun, Rock Star (Music on Main St). We have a float (old fire truck w/large flatbed attached) so we just need volunteers to wear the costumes for the parade! - The Art in Chestertown will be having their Juried Student Art Show on weekends from 11 AM to 5 PM throughout the month of May. 6 high school classes are participating with 115 pieces of art on display so stop in to see the local talent of the youth of our community!
- NW School Budget Vote is May 20th ~ get out and vote!
- Rail Roads on Parade opens May 23rd – another great entertainment venue in our area that everyone should check out if they haven’t all ready done so!
- There will be a Leadership Growing Event on May 9th with noted guest speakers at the Word of Life Inn and Conference Center. Admission is $59 and more information can be obtained by calling Anthony at #351-5043.
- Library Wine Tasting benefit will be held on May 18th at the Friends Lake Inn beginning at 1 PM. Entrance fee is $25 and all proceeds will benefit the Chestertown Public Library.
