General Meeting Minutes: January 23, 2015

Donnie called the meeting to order, welcomed everyone and reminded us of the 5th Annual Bob Whiteford Ice Fishing Tournament to be held on Brant Lake, Saturday, January 24th from 9A to 3P.

  • Electronic Bulletin Board Sign: Fred gave us an update on the progress of that committee. There is a problem with positioning the pole that he is working on and will keep us updated. So far donations received for the sign are at $3K.
  • Woofstock: Cindy made a deposit to Dock Dogs to lock them in. She will give a full report at the next meeting. Donnie asked for questions from the floor…there were none.
  • St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Is scheduled for March 7th. Keith has set up road closing and has the bagpipers lined up. Barb Thomas will co-chair with Donnie. Randy and Dave will serve on the committee. There was discussion regarding sending letters to businesses, banners, bands and notifying Trailways Bus Company. This committee is scheduled to meet on Monday, February 2, at 5PM at the Panther Mountain Inn.
  • ATV Rides: Scheduled as follows: May 30th with proceeds earmarked for the Electronic Bulletin Board Sign, July 18th (no designation for proceeds as yet), and September 26th with proceeds earmarked for Toys for Tots.

2015 Outhouse Race in Memory of Davin Berg

It is time again for the Brant Lake Winter Carnival February 21st, and the favorite of many, the Outhouse race in Memory of Davin Berg. This year the Berg family and friends have raised $1000 in prizes for the fastest throne on the lake. We encourage you to enter your own outhouse in the race and we are sharing the rules below:

Outhouse Race in Memory of Davin Berg

Throne Specifications:

  1. Outhouse can only be human powered. No wheels and no motors. No electric, solar, or gas powered assistance. No glass and not more than one half of any wall may be window. Structure must be made of plywood, tin or any other sturdy material. There will be no card­board, visqueen (plastic-wrapping), tarp or tarp-like structures. The racing outhouse must have one open side, front or back, a roof, a seat with at least one hole inside and a full floor.
  2. The outhouse must be built with a minimum 30” x 30” base, have 3 walls, a door is not required but if you have one it must be locked in the open position during all races, and must have a roof and a seat with at least one hole.
  3. The outhouse may have up to two persons pulling with a maximum 20’ rope. Minimum height is 6’ from the ground to peak of roof. Maximum width 7’ including push bars. Max height 8’ from ground to highest point. Max Length 6’. Push bars must be permanently mounted to the outhouse. Outhouse must have one rider sitting on a toilet seat at all times with reading material and a roll of toilet paper. The rider may not assist in the movement of the outhouse. The outhouse must ride on downhill or cross country skis. Any number of skis may be used.
  4. Each person on the outhouse racing team must be 16 years or older.
  5. Each entry must have an Outhouse name that is to be displayed on each side of the structure. Sponsors names may be displayed anywhere on the outside. No explicit language or pornographic displays allowed on or in the outhouse. This is a family event.

Race Rules:

  1. 5 person teams. One team member must be riding in the outhouse at all times.
  2. Each outhouse must stay in its designated lane for the entire race. Lane encroachment will cause heat disqualification if it interferes with competitor’s ability to race.
  3. There will be a mandatory pit stop at mid race for a fire-drill. Each member must run around the Outhouse three times and the rider must switch places with one of the pushers.

The entry fee is $25 for each outhouse entered.

Approximate Race Starting Time – 3:30 to 4:00

General Board Meeting Minutes: January 9, 2015

  • Brant Lake Winter Carnival: Will be held Saturday February 21st this year. Over $1,000 has been raised to date for the Out House Race prizes and all businesses are are invited to enter! The Downhill Derby is scheduled for Feb. 14th and we’d like to have more events throughout the week (it’ vacation week) so anyone with ideas let us know. We need more teams for Snow Shoe Softball and the Broom Ball Tournaments so any groups interested please let us know! In addition to the Fry Pan Toss, Curling, Out House Races, Children’s sledding hill and Ice Bowling we’ll also be having an Icicle Contest (bring your longest icicle!) with Adult & Children winners. Also new this year is a competition amongst local business and/or groups to get the most votes for their nominated King & Queen. $1 a vote and the most votes win bragging rights and a crown so vote for your favorite King & Queen at local establishments and/or organizations!
  • APAC : Current APAC committee members Steve Smith, Derick Borst, Katie Kearney, Kat Andonucci, Susan Andonucci and Tony Taverni have decided to dissolve APAC as a subcommittee of TLBA and we are considering their recommendation. Attorney Rob Simon explained that APAC was a sub-committee of the TLBA and the future of APAC and its monies ultimately fall under the Business Alliance. Susan Andonucci explained that the existing APAC group would like to donate the funds to PAC, a performing arts club at North Warren Central School to provide a coach bus for students to take to an upcoming event in lieu of a school bus. Following attorney recommendation and seeing the TLBA is still planning many events at the Carol Theatre for this coming year, we voted to have a new committee determine what direction APAC will take and how these funds will be dispersed, reflecting the Mission Statement of both APAC and the TLBA.
  • St. Patrick’s Day Parade: March 7th . We need a new chairperson to head this committee. Keith Wilkinson will organize the bag pipers and road closure, but someone is needed to head the organization of the rest of the parade. There is a solid committee in place that will help, but someone is needed to co-ordinate all events. If you can step up to the plate and take charge, it would be greatly appreciated so please let us know if you can help. This is a great event that everyone enjoys each year, and we would hate to see it end because of lack of community involvement.
  • Electric Sign for Town Events: Committee is moving forward but variances are needed from the Town of Chester and the APA and Fred Holman is working on obtaining the necessary permits. Variances are needed for the size of the sign and the size of the lighted portion. Checks can be made out to the North Warren Chamber of Commerce and mailed to PO Box 490 – Chestertown, NY 12817 Attn: Digital Sign.
  • Woof Stock : Presentations will be made to the Town of Chester and the Town of Horicon for funding. At this point no funding has been awarded but appeals will be made to PetCo and Bensens this month, and although plans are still moving forward, lack of financial support might limit the number of events planned. If anyone has any ideas or connections who might be able to help with some sort of sponsorship, please contact Cindy at [email protected] or #494-3016.
  • ATV Rides: Dates for 2015: May 30th, July 18th, September 26th. Tin Tee Pee might also be sponsoring a Jeep Poker Run to benefit Toys for Tots.
  • Horicon Day : Scheduled for August 1, 2015.
  • Stand up for Upstate Schools: North Warren PTO will be sponsoring a meeting on Wednesday Jan. 14th at 6:30 PM at NW Central School to learn about the “GEA” Gap elimination adjustment and the effect it has on our school & community. $198.5 Million has been lost in State Aid so attend this session to learn more about the SU4US and see what you can do to make a difference.

General Board Meeting Minutes: December 12, 2014

  • Taste of the Tri-Lakes and Rotary Memory Tree was a great success and we appreciate all the restaurants who participated and all the volunteers who made it possible – it started snowing at just the right time and we look forward to having this yearly event!
  • “Repeal Day” The End of Prohibition was a great evening but weather limited the crowd so plans will be in the works for next year as a follow up night for Rum Runners. Big thanks to Monica Herrington for organizing this!
  • Brant Lake Winter Carnival: Will be held Saturday February 21st this year. Over $1,000 has been raised to date for the Out House Race prizes and all businesses are are invited to enter! Committee will meet Tuesday Dec. 16th at 9 AM at Jimbo’s and anyone wanting to help out this year is welcome to attend. The Downhill Derby is scheduled for Feb.14th and we’d like to have more events throughout the week (it’ vacation week) so anyone with ideas let us know. A formal dance where the King & Queen of the Carnival can be voted upon and crowned was suggested, and a few members are looking into this.
