Meeting Minutes: May 18, 2012

• Debra Eves spoke to the group about a reduced rate for alliance business owners for the Southern Adirondacks Guide for this season. Anyone interested in advertising can contact Debra at #494-5762 or #538-5605.
• The Exchange in North Creek at the old Boardertown for local artisans, crafters and designers will be opening at the end of June. 60% of profits will go to the crafters and 40% to the shop. It is estimated there will be 18 trains a week coming into North Creek this summer.
• The Town of Chester approved our requests of:
  • New Town Banners to be hung on the power poles in Chestertown and Pottersville.
  • Painting the benches put out in town the same color.
  • Allowing a wine vendor to sell at the Farmer’s Market on town property.
• The Town of Horicon also approved a request for new Town Banners.
• Reservations for banners should be emailed to [email protected] as we are limited to 30 for Chestertown, with Pottersville, Adirondack, and Brant Lake having no limits at this time. After the recreational designs are completed, business will receive an email and they should go directly to Garnet Signs to pick their design and pay the $125. There will be 6 or 7 designs and 5 of each will be available on a “first come, first pay” basis. Hopefully these will be completed and hung by July 7th for the Veterans Memorial dedication and Summerfest.
• New letterhead and logo designs by Brandon Himoff were presented and approved.
• Sign committee reported we can use any signs from the National Scenic Byway Program to put on the exit ramps of I-87, as well as a new Welcome sign. There may be some funding available for this and more will be discussed at the next meeting.
• A reminder that the Centurion Bike Race will be coming through our area the weekend of June 21-23, passing through Chestertown around 11 am on Sunday.
• There is a new zoning and subdivision ordinance being discussed in Horicon and more business owners should get involved and give their input to make the town laws more flexible and “developmentally friendly”.
• A vote for officers was held and the following will serve for the next 12 months:

  • Vice President: Clarke Dunham
  • Treasurer: Barb Hill
  • Secretary: Cindy Mead
  • Directors: Keith Wilkinson, Linda Muench, Helena Robbins, Greg Beckler, Brandon Himoff and Fred Holman.

Meeting Minutes: April 20, 2012

A Wine Social to benefit the Alliance will be held Monday, April 23rd, from 5:30 to 7:30. There will be a $20 admittance fee and raffles throughout the evening. Jacob and Toney will be donating cheese, crackers, etc. and local businesses will donate items to be raffled off. It was suggested we co-ordinate events such as these with the NW Chamber of Commerce to get information out to Chamber members as well.

John Behan of Behan Planning and Design and a representative of the Main Street Enhancement Program spoke on the plans for the Veteran’s Memorial to be built on the front lawn of the Chestertown Municipal Center. There will be a concrete slab with power for outdoor performances and work should be completed by July 7th providing the rest of the monies needed have been raised. Street lights will also be extended on Main Street to the Ice Cream Parlor.

There are still grant monies available for the Town revitalization project and we may want to tap into some of these funds for our projects.

Committee reported that the Town approved our request to replace Forrest Jones’s Christmas Tree signs and the old signs will be taken by the Historical Society and possibly placed in the Municipal Center.

A request was submitted to the Town for a streetlight at the corner of Rte 8 and the Schroon River Rd. Supervisor Monroe will be contacting the DOT regarding this.

A sample of banners to be purchased by local businesses and hung on the town streetlights will be presented at the next meeting in preparation to submission to Town approvals at their next meeting on May 8th.

Discussion was held regarding a cohesive theme for signage, etc. in our towns and it was agreed that the goal of combining the recreational and historical aspects of our communities should be stressed.

Meeting Minutes: March 23, 2012

• Sign Committee is still working on additional/improved signage for the area. A detailed diagram and plans need to be submitted to the Chestertown Town Board to update the Christmas Tree sign on Landon Hill. As different representatives from the Alliance should be present at the Town Board meetings so they see there is a substantial group of individuals interested in our goals, we will start getting 2 or 3 volunteers to attend these meetings each month to present our requests.
• Representatives are going to the Thurman ATV club meeting to see if there is any way we can get some ATV activity our way during the “off” seasons. Not yet a dead issue.
• Farmer’s Market has everything in order at this time but still needs Vendors. Please pass the word. www.chestertownfarmersmarket.com for more information.
• Wine Tasting will be assisted by Greg Taylor and local distributers will be donating wine. Tentative date of Monday, April 16^th at the Panther Mt. Inn will be confirmed at the next meeting. All proceeds will go to the Tri-Lakes Business Alliance.
• North Creek Exchange: Sponsored by the railroad and at the old Mountain Bordertown in North Creek Space is available to vendors, businesses and individuals for selling local wares and crafts.
• Stone Bridge and Caves will be having an artisan/vendor storefront next to the Ice Cream shop on Rte. 9 in Pottersville for sales of local made arts and crafts.
• A Flag Committee was formed to design, schedule removal, and develop a written request for new flags to be hung on the poles in Chestertown and Pottersville to be submitted to the April Town Board meeting. The flags will be representative of the activities available in our area and will be able to be purchased/ sponsored by local businesses.
• A suggestion was made to make more use of the Chestertown Theater.
