General Board Meeting Minutes: June 26, 2014
- APAC: THE BEATLES ARE COMING TO CHESTERTOWN! “Across the Pond”, the band, is a live tribute to the Beatles music of the 1960’s, “performing their hearts out, night after hard day’s night”. The band consists of four seasoned musicians and songwriters who, along with the historic setting of the theatre, will bring you back in time and guarantee a memorable evening for all ages. Tickets can be purchased in advance at The Bull House, Main Street Ice Cream Parlor, The Panther Mountain Pub or at the door the night of the performance. Performance is scheduled for Wednesday July 9th at 7 PM. Tickets are $10. Crandall Library has donated a Baby Grand piano for APAC to use at the Carol Theatre and ‘seat covers’ have been ordered and are being purchased by theatre owner Bob Swan (Thanks Bob!!!) Upcoming events include Georgie Wonders 18 piece orchestra on July 19th and get ready to enjoy a performance by Laura Roth, a World-Class Entertainer, Full-Time Professional Singer, Actress and Comedienne on August 2nd.
- Music on Main Street: July 10: Celtic Band, July 24: Stony Creek Band, August 7: S.L. Smith Band, August 21: Master Cylinders. All concerts are free to the public and will be held on the front lawn of the Chester Town Hall from 5:00 to 8:30 PM.
- TLBA Benefit Golf Tournament will be held Friday, July 18th at Green Mansions Golf Course. We need teams! Loon Lake Association has entered a team and it would be fun to have all the lake associations compete (ESSLA? Brant Lake? Friends Lake?), as well as local businesses or individuals as we appreciate the support in one of the few fundraisers the TLBA has each year. Cost is $60 per person and includes cart and barbeque. We also need raffle items and someone to help organize this so contact Doug O’Brien at [email protected] to volunteer or register your team. Team monies can be sent to Doug O’Brien – PO Box 720 – Chestertown, NY 12817.
- Next Car Hop is July 11 at the Panther Mt. Inn. Mac Millen Construction is donating the trophies and rain date is the following Friday. Call Don Butler for info! Participate or spectate – always a good time!
- Chestertown Farmer’s Market : 491 buyers came through the gate the first week and +/- 300 on June 24th….Looking forward to a great summer & hoping the rain stays away on Wednesdays!
- Fred Monroe gave a presentation on the proposed tax raises in Warren County and feels there is not enough support from the Supervisors to increase either Sales or Property Tax at the County level. He also presented a new report put out by the Adirondack Park Agency on Key Trends Shaping Life in the Park. http://www.apra2014.com Interesting information!
- Thank you to Jane Smith for putting together a scrapbook for the Alliance with all of our newspaper clippings, etc!
- Rum Runners Committee had their first meeting and Rum Runner’s Weekend is scheduled for September 12 – 14. Sub-committees were formed for all of the events we had last year plus a few new ones (Scavenger Hunt!). Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday July 16 at 5 PM at the Panther Mt. Pub.
- Katie Kearney, a recent college grad who is volunteering her time for both APAC and TLBA, expressed a need for broadband to encourage young college graduates and families to live here and be able to make a living. There is a need to get these young people to get involved in our small communities but economics prevent this and better internet coverage would help with this goal. Resources such as Warren County Economic Development, GAP Funding and Escape the City were suggested. Katie has taken over the secretarial and marketing duties for the Adirondack Performing Arts Committee and will be seen at various events as our “Press” taking photos and writing articles so please show your support for her whenever possible!
- The Chestertown Fire Department bought back their original town fire truck built in 1933 and they’re pleased to have it home again!
- We’d like to remind you all to refer to the community calendar at https://trilakesalliance.com for everything that’s happening in our tri-lake area!
