Meeting Minutes: April 5, 2013

• Wine Tasting Social to be held Tuesday, April 16^th, from 5:30 – 7:30 at The Bullhouse to benefit the TLAB. Letters have been sent to both Town Boards and all are welcome to attend this fundraiser. Monies raised will help the Alliance organize future events with signage, advertising costs, possible firework displays, etc. Live music by Rich Ortiz and wines will be donated by local vendors and cheese platter by Oscars with additional d’oeuvres and various raffles. Many thanks to Adirondack Moonshine and Bill Brannigan for organizing this event!
• ATV Ride for a Cure Poker Run: May 4^th. Ride starts at the Tin TeePee and will go into Chestertown and

down to Green Mansions. There will be a $20 registration fee (includes a cook-out at the Tin Teepee at 4pm). All proceeds from the Poker Run will go to Linda Wells, age 26, eleven year Mesothelioma survivor to help defray ongoing medical costs. • May Mixer to be held May 5^th, from 5:30 – 7:00 at Rail Roads on Parade in Pottersville with the North Warren and Gore Mountain Chambers of Commerce. Anyone wishing to donate food for this event should contact the Chamber and again, all residents are welcome to attend this event to get together with your neighbors for a fun evening.
• June Golf Tournament to be held Friday, June 14^th at Green Mansions Golf Course beginning at 1pm. Cost will be $48 per person and will include snacks and an evening barbeque around 6:30. Martha and Ron will have a list of items needed that day and businesses and individuals are wanted to donate food, paper products, etc. This is another fund raiser for the Alliance and $20 of each entry fee will go toward projects and expenses listed above.
• Nancy Craig from the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce invited our communities to participate in Warrensburg’s 200^th anniversary parade to be held July 4,2013. There will be a mustache growing contest, a lunch box auction and other entertaining events.They are looking for floats, bands and vintage cars so anyone wishing to participate should contact the Warrensburg Chamber at #623-2161 and speak to Nancy or contact [email protected] .
• Cindy Stamour from the Chestertown Grand Union was on hand to give us an update on our local store. Now repurchased by TOPS, plans are in the works to update their sign, reduce prices and add more variety to the store. She assured us that the store was very stable and will continue to be operational.
• Assemblyman Dan Stec was our guest speaker and he updated us on the latest NYS budget and offered his help in any of our local projects. Committee members explained the “dead ends” we have faced with trying to improve signage on the Northway exits, updating the old Christmas Tree signs, etc. and he suggested we send a fresh letter to him along with all the correspondence we have had to date regarding these requests and he would do what he could to assist us.
• Upcoming Town Wide Garage Sale to be held in October will be a joint effort with the NW Chamber and the TLBA. Anyone interested in working on this project should contact the Chamber or Debra Eves @494-5762.
• The Beautification Committee will be planting Black Eyed Susans this year to coincide with Warren County’s Bi-Centennial celebration flower.
• The old Brant Lake Garden Center was recently purchased and new owners are planning to open a small general store, café and garden center at the site with an opening date of Spring, 2014. This is a much needed addition to the town of Horicon and we wish you the best of luck!

Meeting Mintues – March 8, 2013

1. Upcoming events/Dates:

St. Pat’s Parade – tomorrow – 30+ groups participating. 1pm step off. TLBA members need to hold banner and march behind it. Meet at Foster Flats at noon. Street will be closed off at 12:45. Town officials have been notified and hopefully will come to march/participate – all were called personally by Don.

ATV Ride for a Cure set for May 4, starting @ Tin TeePee.

Golf Outing set for June 14 @ Green Mansions.

 

2. Wine Tasting – Set for Tuesday, April 16, 5:30 PM at the Bull House. Bill filled in some of the details:

Suppliers/Wineries include; Saratoga Winery, Adirondack Winery, Southern, Empire.

Farmer’s Market vendors are going to be asked to see if they want to contribute food-stuffs.

Working on getting donations for silent auction–anyone interested in donating an item or gift certificate to the auction should contact Bill Brannigan [email protected] (or Deb Eves 494-5762). There will also be some door prizes and a 50/50 raffle.

Music will be provided by Rich Ortiz.

Bill will finish the flyer and get it out to the group.

 

3. Placemats. It was decided to forego using AdVentures for this project and look at getting prices for us to do it on our own, hopefully lowering the cost to those businesses that want to advertise. Deb and Brandon will take a look at what’s possible.

 

4. Accounting. A payment of $200 to Adirondack Broadcasting for radio advertising of the Brant Lake Carnival was approved. $800 was approved to pay the bagpipe band for tomorrow’s parade. This will be reimbursed by the Town of Chester. The $1,000 from the Town of Horicon for the Winter Carnival was received.

 

5. Discussion regarding how to better reach larger audience, particularly reach out to 2^nd home owners. Possibly can use tax maps to create a mailing list to send out calendar of events. Also reach out to the different Lake Associations, including linking to their FB pages.

 

6. Discussion regarding possible music festival. Possible location to be center of town, at 2^nd bank parking lot. Requires further discussion.

Meeting Minutes: February 8, 2013

• Adirondack Snocross Challenge will be held February 16^th & 17^th at Green Mansions Golf Club. Admission is $10 Adults $5 Children. Schedule is: Friday the 15th – register 12-8, the band ‘Technical Difficulites’ 8-12
  Saturday the 16th – register 7-10, races start at 10:30, food and drink all day, music by ‘After FX’ 8-12
  Sunday the 17th – register 7-10, races start at 10:30, food and drink all day
  Bon Fires Saturday and Sunday and food will be provided by NWCS and Warrensburg Central School. Call Ron Walker at #494-7222 for more information.
• Crazy Downhill Derby will be held February 23^rd at Dynamite Hill.
• Winter Carnival Committee reported all is ready to go on Saturday and they’re looking forward to a great event! More assistance is still need for parking, manning the info booth, etc. Thanks to the Adirondack Journal for another great article on the front page promoting the Carnival. Special thanks also to Jim McCluskey for making the trophies for the OutHouse Race, the Lake Placid Curling Club for their participation, and Jimbo’s at the Point for use of their establishment and the great work they’ve done on the ice skating rinks, etc. in preparation for this event.
• St. Patrick’s Day Parade scheduled for March 9^th is moving forward. Parade will start at Hudson Headwaters Health Center and end in front of Glens Falls National Bank. Grand Marshall will be Jack Higgins and Poul Carstensen will be the Master of Ceremonies. Anyone interested in marching or entering a float should contact Keith Wilkinson at #588-5136.
• Adirondack Vintage Sleds to benefit the WAIT House of Glens Falls, helping homeless youth in Warren and Washington Counties will be held at Green Mansions Golf Club on March 2, 2013. No entry fee required – $10 donations recommended. 50/50 raffle, bonfire, groomed riding area, bar & restaurant open – show, swap and sell your vintage sled. Event begins at 10am with a 9am set-up and continues throughout the day. WAIT (Welcoming Adolescents in Transition).
• Wine Tasting to benefit the Tri-Lakes Business Alliance will be held April 17^th at the Hemlock Ledge in Chestertown.
• Internet/Face Book study session will be presented by Brandon Himoff and held at the NW Chamber of Commerce on February 27^th at 8:30 pm for anyone interested in learning how to use this medium to promote their business. This is a free presentation and all are invited to attend.
• ART: in Chestertown is displaying Winter Light until March 2^nd with Spring Awakening running from March 15^th through April 27^th. Winter hours are Saturday & Sunday 11am – 5pm. Membership is open to all artists.
• Golf Tournament Fund Raiser for the Tri-Lakes Business Alliance will be at Green Mansions on June 14^th. 18 hole shotgun start. Entry fee is tentatively $45 pp including lunch and barbeque.
• TLBA currently has $1,438.50 in checking account but all items/bills for the Winter Carnival have not yet been paid and the $1,000 we received from the Town of Horicon has not yet been deposited.
