Meeting Minutes: January 11, 2013

• BRANT LAKE WINTER CARNIVAL: Plans are in motion for the Brant Lake Winter Carnival to be held on the lake in front of Jimbo’s at the Point on Saturday, February 9, 2013. Committee went over what is currently planned for the day. Local adult softball team will be challenging the Horicon Fire Department in Snowshoe Softball, a children’s Ice Fishing Tournament is planned, as well as an Outhouse Race (we still need more participants to do this – all businesses (contractors?) are invited to build an outhouse and help with the entertainment! Frisbee Golf, Flag Hockey, Broom Ball tournaments, self guided snowshoe and/or cross country ski trails, a display of Vintage Snowmobiles, and games for the kids will be on site. A barbeque will be served on the deck at Jimbo’s and the restaurant will be open for lunch, with Jazz Band playing in the late afternoon into the evening. Representatives will be going to the Horicon Town Board meeting this week to see if they could donate some money to the Carnival to assist with advertising, seet up costs and prizes/awards.
• NORTH EAST SNOW CROSS at Green Mansions is planned for the weekend of February 16^th & 17^th. There will be (2) one day events with registrations on Friday, so hopefully there will be an influx of people into our towns for the weekend. Races are Saturday & Sunday from 10:30am – 4pm. Amateurs and professionals are invited to race. There will be a $10 Adult/$5 Children spectator fee, and bonfires and both North Warren and Warrensburg schools will be selling food on site. • CRAZY DOWNHILL DERBY at Dynamite Hill on February 23^rd.
• ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE: The Town of Chester has approved the St. Patricks Day Parade to be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 and they donated $800 for hiring bag pipers for the event. Highway Superintendent Jason Monroe said they give us their total support by closing streets, traffic control, etc. The local fire departments & the American Legion are on board, but word needs to get out to the Scout Troops, School Groups, Pre-Schools and anyone else interested in marching or possibly making and riding on a float. • The Bull House Restaurant should be opening in 2-3 weeks.
• Wine Tasting fund raiser for the Tri-Lakes Business Alliance has been postponed to sometime in April.
• RUM RUNNER WEEKEND: Being held the weekend of September 13^th – 15^th in Chestertown. A Celebration of Warren County’s 200^th Anniversary with a Visit Back in Time to THE ROARING TWENTIES. A few planned events are a Rum Runners Classic, Speak Easy Costume Ball, Classic Car Show, Babe Ruth Battle of the Bats and Vaudeville Talent Shows. This will be a huge weekend long affair, and many people will be needed to help organize the different events. There will be a meeting at the Panther Mt. Inn on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 @ 6PM and anyone interested in helping out is welcome to attend.
• Brant Lake Taxi gave 187 people free rides on New Year Eve and there were no DWI’s in the area they covered that night.
• Sign Committee is still working on getting better signage off the Northway Exits for our businesses.
• The new North Warren Chamber of Commerce area maps are completed and can be picked up at the Chamber.
• C&C ADIRONDACK SNOWMOBILE TOURS has opened in front of the Loon Lake RV park across the road from the Loon Lake Public Beach. They are doing 1 and 2 hour lake & trail tours and dinner rides. For more info, call

Meeting Minutes: November 30, 2012

• TASTE OF THE TRI-LAKES was a huge success with around 200 people in attendance and $1330 being raised which was divided between the TLBA and the Chestertown Rotary. Special thanks to Stone Bridge and Caves for their donation of amethyst crystal that was auctioned off, members of the NW girls basketball team who helped children with the smores, and all the restaurants who participated and helped make this a success!
• Brochures advertising our towns are completed and will be distributed in the Malta/Saratoga area. They are also available for local businesses to display and more can easily be ordered if needed.
• The new town rules regarding Parking on Main Street was discussed at length and as the Town of Chester hasn’t filed any formal papers yet, all are encouraged to attend the next Town Board meeting on Tuesday, December 11^th, 7pm at the Chester Municipal Center to voice their opinions. There is a 10’ no parking zone for driveways in Manhattan…. yet Chestertown needs 40’?
• Horicon publishes their meeting agenda online and it was suggested Chestertown do the same so constituents know what will be discussed at the next meeting.
• Helena Robbins has agreed to serve on the NW Chamber of Commerce board to act as liaison between the Tri-Lakes Business Alliance and the Chamber.
• Gore Mt. Chamber of Commerce is working on their Winter/Summer Guide and any businesses interested in advertising in the publication should contact the Gore Chamber.

• BRANT LAKE TAXI will again be offering free taxi rides on New Year’s Eve. This will be their 5^th annual Operation Safe Ride with 571 rides being given last year. There has been 1 reported DWI in the area they cover (NW, Johnsburg & Minerva school districts) during the past 4 years this service has been offered. They will be putting a full page ad in the Adirondack Journal thanking all who donate to this worthwhile cause so anyone interested in donating can call the Taxi directly to make arrangements.
• Jimbo’s at the Point is now open to the public: Thursday – Saturday, 5pm – closing. Thursday Dinner Special $19.95 for appetizer, entrée and dessert.
• John Wheatly, Small Business Advisor from the Economic Development Committee will be at our next meeting to give a presentation.

Meeting Minutes: October 19, 2012

• Rob Simon has our legal papers drawn up and should be ready by Wednesday when President and Treasurer will open a checking account, etc.
• We need to write a letter of request to the Town for a street light at the Crossroads intersection and will submit it to the Town Board.
• Rotary Club Memory Tree Lighting – November 22^nd. The “Tree” was initiated last year in an effort to develop a sense of community in Chestertown as well as be a focal point for people to remember and acknowledge those folks that had made, or continue to make, a positive impact on their lives. A by-product of this effort was to raise funds that could be used to help people in the community address difficult times that they might face. Funds that are raised are used to assist in the support efforts of the community and is distributed to the food pantries of Chestertown and Horicon, it helps provide heating assistance to people that need a little help and it goes to other things as required. Last year over 392 people represented on the “tree” with names coming from as far away as the South Pole. Submissions were received from Michigan, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Florida and Ontario, Canada. This year they hope to double that result and be able to light the tree with 800 people being represented by these lights that will be illuminated throughout the 2012 Holiday Season.
• TASTE OF THE TRI-LAKES: The Alliance will be sponsoring a Taste of the Tri-Lakes event the night of the Memory Tree Lighting as a fund raiser for the Alliance. A committee was formed and letters will be prepared and sent out to all local restaurants to promote this event which will be held in the Panther Mountain Inn parking lot and upstairs lobby. We will be providing a small bonfire and “smore fixings” for the children, and hopefully all the restaurants in our Tri-Lake area will participate in this community event.
• The Enhancement Committee has extra strings of Christmas lights for any businesses in need of them – contact Mary Jane Dower.
• Kathy Varney of Creating Healthy Places (Glens Falls Hospital) presented a request for us to ask the Chester Town Board to adopt a complete resolution for “Complete Streets” which will make “roadways that enable safe and convenient access for all users, including bicyclist, pedestrians, children, person with disabilities, motorists, users of public transportation and seniors.” Motion was approved to submit proposed resolution to the board.
• The orange grates are still up on Main Street and a call will be made to the DOT to address this prolonged, unsightly situation.
• Tin Teepee held their Toys for Tots ATV ride last weekend and $1000 was raised for the organization. 43 riders participated and we would like to expand on this event next year by expanding the trail system into the towns.
• Work should be commencing on the Old Ford Building on 10/29/12 with expected completion by 11/9/12. This will include asbestos removal and destruction of the building. The Town is working out legal issues with the bankruptcy court regarding equipment in the building to be removed before demolition. Jupiter Environmental Services of Albany will be doing the work.
• Matt Doheny running for Congressman in our District spoke and answered questions from the audience.
